Berbere Spice Blend

This blend of spices takes its name from the Amharic word for “hot.” And it is well-named. Its flavor begins with a rush of African Chili peppers, aleppo, and black & white peppers. Their heat subsides to a tender tingle of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon. All this spicy-sweetness is brilliantly interrupted with conversations of  cumin, fenugreek, and other spices and herbs to bring life to any dish. Speaking of dishes, this is the key ingredient in one of the most famous African dishes, Ethiopian Doro Wat, a fabulous spicy chicken stew.
